Object ID:
Scope & Content:
Remigius DeRyckere homestead deed to 160 acres of land north of Deer Lodge. It is signed by President Ulysses S. Grant.
An accompanying digital map displays the location north of the city.
Fr. DeRyckere's 1910 will indicates that he owned town lots and mining property which he bequeathed to the St. Mary's Academy and St. Joseph's Hospital. However, before he died in Belgium in 1916 he appointed Fr. Lambaere, a fellow Belgian priest who had served in Montana, to be his sole heir. The property Lambaere disposed of included the Blue Bird lode quartz claim in Deer Lodge County and the Forest lode quartz claim in Granite County, as well as six town lots in Deer Lodge. The recipients were St. John's Ecclesiastical Society of the Diocese of Helena, the parish, St. Mary's Academy and St. Joseph's Hospital in Deer Lodge.
