Bishop Joseph M. Gilmore : First Native Bishop of Helena
Bishop Joseph Gilmore posed in 1946 at his desk, reading a book. He probably wrote many of his sermons here. His sermons [copies of which the Diocesan Archives has] covered topics such as overcoming the pressures of the world, the joy of Christmas, and the blessing of Easter. From this desk he corresponded with Italian aliens held at Ft. Missoula during World War II and later, after the war, planned the Diocesan Resettlement Program to find housing and employment opportunities for displaced persons.
