Bishop Joseph M. Gilmore : First Native Bishop of Helena
Bishop Gilmore's interactions with priests and clergy even took him to Rome. In 1959, Bishop Gilmore made his third ad limina visit to Rome, Italy. Every bishop is required to take a trip to Rome every five years to report on his diocese. These trips are referred to as "ad limina" visits. Here he stands with Pope John XXIII (in white) and two unknown priests during his ad limina visit.
