Bishop Joseph M. Gilmore : First Native Bishop of Helena
Bishop Gilmore's first assignment as a newly ordained priest was as a faculty member at Mount St. Charles College (now known as Carroll College). Bishop Gilmore directed athletics at Mount St. Charles College. He is shown with members of the football team in either 1916 or 1917. Bishop Gilmore also taught Latin and English at Mount St. Charles College from 1915 to 1920. In 1920, he received his first parish assignment as pastor of St. Teresa's in Whitehall, Montana.
